Sowore teach

The publisher of Sahara Reporters and presidential candidate of the in 2019 general elections Omoyele Sowore Monday said he was opened to teaching Government or Geography in a government-owned secondary school “while sitting idle in Abuja.” He said he looked for a public school where he could teach on Monday. But the principal had “disappeared” before he got to the school. “Today I set out to look for a public school where I could teach “Government” or Geography while sitting idle in Abuja,” Sowore said in a post on his Instagram. “So we set out to a public school but by the time we arrived there, the Principal had disappeared on us. Great thanks to students and teachers who welcomed us.” It is unclear if Sowore had a prior arrangement with the school or if the principal knew he was coming. Sowore did not say if he was allowed to teach either of the subjects he mentioned. He, however, posted pictures that showed he was warmly received.

Akeredolu, Oyetola, Fayemi Defend Operation Amotekun

Three Southwest governors on Monday clarified the status of Operation Amotekun, the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN), which is at the centre of a raging controversy. They spoke at separate fora. Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola faulted the Supreme Council for Sharia of Nigeria’s claim that Amotekun is a subtle way of ‘Christianising’ the Southwest. In Akure, Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu said recruitment into the security outfit will soon start. Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi dismissed the claim that Operation Amotekun will set the stage for Southwest’s secession from the country. Oyetola, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ismail Omipidan, said: “If you sit down with those peddling the misinformation they probably do not understand the basis of the argument they are making. “Apart from the social media misinformation about Amotekun being taken from the Bible or whatever, there was no time the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) was part of the meeting when most of these decisions were taken. And if CAN has never been part of the decision, how will you ascribe it to a particular religion? I think it is important to make that clear that there is no recruitment based on church birth certificate.”

Governor Samuel Ortom has disclosed that he narrowly escaped death when suspected armed herdsmen shot at him in his farm at Adeke along Makurdi-Naka road. We had to call the joint military security team, Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS, who came and saved the situation,” he added. The Governor lamented that in the influx of armed herdsmen into the state had become a source of concern and worry and needed to be checked urgently. He said “We are doing everything possible to arrest the situation. These people are deliberately coming into the state. And I have always maintained that armed herdsmen, ISWA, ISIS and Boko Haram are the same thing and they are out to prosecute the same agenda.
